Piping Instructor

Stuart Lowe

Stuart Lowe

Stuart Lowe grew up in Scarborough, Ontario. Following in  his dad’s footsteps, he took up piping at the age of 7 under  John MacDonald, then Pipe Major of the Toronto Police Pipe Band.

A few years later he joined his first band. From then until he entered university, Stuart continued to hone his piping skills under Chris Anderson, Bill Livingstone, and Jim McGillivray, while also competing in solo and band contests at Highland Games across Southern Ontario and the Northeastern United States.

After graduating as an engineer from the University of Waterloo in 1992, Stuart put his pipes away and went to work in Japan as an engineer in the automotive industry and, later, in banking.

He returned to Canada in 2003 and began playing pipes again, joining the Toronto Police Grade One pipe band and competing with them across North America and in the World PIpe Band championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Not long after, he started teaching piping to a growing roster of students.  He currently works as a professional photographer in Toronto.

When he can get away, he pretends to be an avid surfer, backcountry snowboarder, and, when there are no waves or powder, he’s just as happy to be cycling or paddling his canoe.

Stuart continues to teach, coach, and mentor pipers of all ages.
